L'Amourier

AOP Minervois

L'Amourier estate, 20 ha, between the medieval city of Carcassonne and foothills of the Montagne Noire: Jean-Yves and Luc Lapeyre cultivate the vines in the far west of the Minervois appellation, a privileged place where the Mediterranean climate is softened by the last Atlantic breezes. Jean-Yves is the fourth generation, enjoying several talents in the family history including winegrowing and winemaking as well as barrel making. A feature of the estate, the blend of the juices obtained from traditional and from carbonic fermentations in full cluster. A sensitivity, a folklore and a culture are entering into the composition of the wines. Wines from bon vivant winegrowers with a delicate palate!

In the 19th century, the family engaged in silkworm farming as a complementary agricultural activity, producing silk from the cocoons. From that era, we have preserved the mulberry trees that provided the silkworms' essential food. In the Southern French language Occitan, these trees are called "Amourier." Our love for both winemaking and the legacy of silk production is beautifully reflected in our estate’s name. "Amourier" resonates with "Amour," symbolizing our deep passion for crafting beautiful wines. The mulberry tree remains a proud emblem of our heritage, prominently featured in our logo and on many of our wine labels.
The estate has been certified organic for over ten years, adhering to sustainable practices that prioritize the health of the land and vines. Vineyard work, including trimming, pruning, and most of the harvest, is carried out manually, reflecting a hands-on approach to viticulture. Jean-Yves favors crafting approachable, easy-drinking wines, even from old vines. His modern winemaking style focuses on gentle extractions, often blending traditional vinification with semi-carbonic maceration. This method enhances soft tannins and vibrant fruit expression. For the estate’s upper-range wines, this approach maximizes the complexity imparted by old vines while preserving intense fruit character, resulting in wines that are both layered and lively.
